On Saturday 27th March some of Exeter’s finest polo players went to tackle the unknown forces of Hale and Bude. In the boats first were Andy, Noah, Jess, Dave P, and JC (in goal). We had some excellent passes and brilliant goal-keeping. Although Exeter put up a good fight, the other teams – which both contained players of national standard – managed to get the edge and narrowly defeated us. Nevertheless, we lined up for a second time; in the boats now were Andy, Iain, Dave P, Jen, and JC. The score stayed even throughout the first half of both games, but then Hale and Bude came back with stronger second halves and claimed the victories. Many brilliant goals were scored by Exeter, with congratulations due to Iain as the top goal-scorer.
After a brief rest, Exeter split into two teams – with the referees making up the numbers – to play some scratch games. After playing some Exeter –vs– Exeter matches one of the Exeter teams then played Bude, and with our confidence and abilities boosted we managed a clear victory! We then swapped some players over and continued our winning streak. Special thanks go to Emily May for her fantastic support and delicious home-made flapjacks! Bring on the next competition!
