It had been a stressful few weeks for many with exams and revision forcing a lot of the non freshers into recluse. However the sun and the lure of kayaking some super super gnarly burly stout or maybe just the need to have a pint at double locks managed to convince a few members of EUCC to put down those books and get on the river (and a bit of a canal). Those brave few were Callum, Dave, Jo, Anna, Robin, Sarah, Noah, Sophie, Kealan, Suzi, Beckett, Jacky and Andy.
As expected faff ensued with the shuttle getting lost on the way back from double locks, this however did give Kealan plenty of time to practise some failed rolls, a few t rescues and a couple of swims. In order to get Tehe bobbin back for this faff the g force he was paddling was thrown into the river however Anna took pity on Tehe bobbin and rescued his boat for him. On their arrival back we learnt that a few EUCC members were riding their babes, sorry bikes, down to the pub, pretty lazy if you ask me. We finally got on our way with my new playboy paddles (cheers Sam and Lynne) sparkling in the sun and bringing joy to everyone around. The happy days continued with everyone styling freshers weir, this was especially good for Jo as it was her first ever river trip! We paddled on a bit further and soon paddled down the next weir with no incidents to report. On our portage to the canal we came across the lazy cyclists (Sam, Marie, Stonham, Frampers, Lynne, Jen George and Jen Heath) who rang their bells and wished us well as we got onto the last stretch of the canal until the pub. A soggy Sophie due to her taking a swim in the canal and the rest of the paddlers continued on our merry way to the pub. We got changed as quickly as we could and joined the cyclists in the pub garden where stories of the stout we just ran were told and laughter was had. All in all it was a lovely relaxing paddle in the sunshine which ended in a nice pint by the river, If EUCC did summer days…
