Ex- members weekend away (11th – 13th March)

As I’m sure any member of the EUCC will tell you Ex- members is a weekend full of fun, excitement and laughs with opportunity to meet up with old friends or make new ones and of course this year’s was certainly no different!
The rendezvous was a bunk house in Buckfastleigh, a village near the get out for the Loop! As the dedicated students we are, we left Exeter around 6ish on the Friday evening after lectures and we arrived at the bunk house just after 8. The evening was spent exploring the bunk house, chatting and relaxing and scrabbling about on our hands and knees in the indoor caving system made from bed mattresses by Phat Matt, Crazy Dave and Peter!
After an epic fry up on the Saturday morning, we jumped in to vehicles and headed down to Bude. An awesome time was spent on the beach kayak surfing and walking the cliff tops around the coastline, with a Sainsbury’s carrier bag picnic lunch to round it off! On the way back, there was a cheeky stop to explore Bude, with the opportunity to buy some horrific sea side gifts (no names mentioned Kate) and catch a glimpse of the rugby at the Globe Inn!
On arrival back in Buckfastleigh there was the chance to do some abseiling (in the dark!) before dinner which was a fantastic home cooked chilli by Noah, followed by cake for dessert! The partying then began with some great banter and by far the best game of ‘I have never’ played this year! The socialising ran throughout the night with numerous challenges and hilarious games!
We awoke Sunday to yet another fabulous cooked breakfast (thanks to those who cooked!), however had no where to eat it as Matt had decided to spend the night asleep on the table! As the weather so good we decided to head up onto Dartmoor where the afternoon was spent walking and climbing. Big thank you to Ben Watts who brought all his climbing gear for us to use!
All in all the weekend was a fantastic success with everyone having a brilliant time! I would like to thank Kate and everyone involved in the planning/organising on behalf of everyone for such a successful trip away, well done! Bring on next year’s!
