    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Nope, it was all very new and exciting.

    1. What made you want to join?

It was the best impulse-decision of my life. I joined becuase the photos of the paddling looked so impressive and inspiring, I wanted a go! Then once i’d met the people and exerienced the fantastic club atmosphere, I was hooked.

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Probably the two and a half week holiday to the Alps, but strong contenders are also the National Student Rodeo and the Adventure Ball. It’s great that the calendar is always so busy and full of things to do.

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Its really hard to chose, but if there was one experience that showed me how much the club has taught me about paddling, it was accidentally getting stuck in a huge playwave called “Le Rabioux” in France. The fear, and then the loud cheers from the banks when I surfed it and rolled up after were just incredible!

    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

I had done some flat water kayaking in the previous couple summers at a club at home.

    1. What made you want to join?

Having learned the basics at home, i really wanted to put what i’d learned into use. However, once i got on my first bit of white water, i realised that it’s not as easy as it seemed. But don’t worry the club looks after you, and you can do as much or as little paddling as you want. Also everyone is ready to help you and give advice, which i think is the best thing about the club. Even if you’ve never paddled, you can progress so much in one year here, just ask crazy Dave.

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

The Adventure Ball. A event held by the club for the entire Uni, at Crealy Adventure Park (near Exeter). There was a Hog roast, deathslides, ball-pits and loads more. it’s an amazing night, and i recommend that everyone attend.

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

      Well…. It comes down to two;
1.) The first time i completed the Dart Loop without swimming. It’s so satisfying to finish a run without soggy feet.
2.) the whole Alps trips!! Every year the club takes about 20 members to the southern French Alps, for two weeks of paddling fun. The water is alot bigger and alot faster, you learn so much in two weeks. And by the end, even though your sick of everyone, you’ll have the best two weeks of the year.

    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Not really, I’d had a go on a couple of activity weekends but pretty much nothing.

    1. What made you want to join?

I went to one of the freshers taster sessions with some friends from halls. The kayaking was fun but above all else I loved the people, and the atmosphere of the club. The sense of achievement as you progress to harder rivers is incredible, but made so much better by being with mates when you do it.

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Theres so many of them! Above all else it’s got to be the two week trip to France each summer. I’ve been on the trip for the past 3 years – it’s a chance to practise your skills on some awesome rivers, enjoy the french food and drink, and to bond with the rest of the club. What’s not to love?!

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

I could never pick just one, EUCC has really just made my University experience.

    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Not really. A week in the holiday before uni meant I could paddle in a straight line…sort of.

    1. What made you want to join?

I had always fancied giving it a go and after really enjoying my week in summer, it left very little thinking to be done. After going on a freshers trip and meeting such lovely people it was a no brainer!

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

My highlight was ex-member weekend. Despite only a couple of ex-member turning up, we crammed into a charming little bunkhouse and had loads of fun, played games and were generally very merry people. The paddling was a good laugh, as the low level allowed us all to go down in a big group with some people nursing reasonable headaches. Also it made me happy to learn that some people weren’t as indestructable as I once thought (ask the social sec about his first night at ex-members)

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

On a personal level my best experience was doing my first proper river roll in front of the 2 people who had taught me how to do it (thank you Jess and Flippin’ Ed Argyle). From a group perspective, it has to be sitting in a big line at Christmas dinner doing the ‘dance’ to Oops upside your head.

      Nope!

    1. What made you want to join?

The great people I met in freshers week and the rivers in EXE!

      Christmas Ball thing.

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

“Windmilling” the entire club at Ex-Members, I don’t remember much of it but the others there will never forget 😉

    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Yes, approximately for 5 years before joining- mainly flat water paddling with sporadic trips to relatively more exciting water ventures. I paddled with my London based club WBB (Westminster Boating Base)where I attained my BCU 3*.

    1. What made you want to join?

The fact I had kayaked beforehand. The Bus. The chance for new and more exciting paddling ventures.

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

I guess i feel obliged to say France because it is such a huge event, BUT for me the smaller more bespoke socials are the ones that stick in my mind.
      1. A-Z social
      2. White t-shirt social
and my personal favourite: TEQUILA NIGHT!!!!

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Too many really. But i think from my first France trip, Tipsy Fire Toilet Paper Dancing…. fuelled by stubbies and plentiful palettes is a definite highlight of my 3 years. Others include playing drunken ´Rober-roo´ in Wales. I love a good speech or 2 so definately the AGMs’ all of them!! The plentitude of quiet meet ups in the RAM that turn into merry ventures!!…….. and i guess i´ll stop there before i get full blown nostalgia.

    1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

I started kayaking at a youth club on the Thames when I was 12, when the club shut down after 4 years I decided to do an instructor training course and get a job doing what I loved. I’ve been paddling most of every summer ever since

    1. What made you want to join?

I knew I wanted to join the canoe club at Exeter even before I went there, actually the location of Exeter for white water and surf beaches possibly played a larger part in my uni selection then it should have:-) When I found out how much you get for you membership fee that just confirmed that EUCC was far and away the best society I joined at uni.

    1. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

My highlight of the year would definitely have to be the France trip! Two and a half weeks of white water paddling with decent rivers, stunning scenery and fun camping (not to mention plenty of swim beers to enjoy) made for a fantastic time and I’m so looking forward to going and helping organise next years trip!

    1. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Picking my favourite EUCC highlight is a really hard one, theres been so many. But given how addicted I am to paddling I think its gon have to be an on the water moment for me. Probably paddling the Ubaye Racecourse on high water, missing a line on a rapid and falling into the one BIG ‘hole’ that we’d been trying to avoid:-s. After rotating my boat through all three axes (somehow without my head going underwater) I droped down into the next hold and spun around on all three axes again without going underwate! I would pay alot of money for a video of those 60 seconds but alas there were no cameras around on that trip… just have to wait for next time:-)
