  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

    Not really.

  2. What made you want to join?

What made you want to join?: I had wanted to give it a go for a while before coming to uni. I had seen plenty of pictures and videos of people doing whitewater kayaking and it looked like great fun… It’s a shame I left it until my 3rd year before joining EUCC!

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

I would probably say the trip to Polzeath, the surf-kayaking trip to cornwall at the start of the university year. There is such an amazing atmosphere with hundreds of kayakers, both experienced and new, from loads of different universities. Loads of people having a great time giving surf-kayaking a go for the first time and a massive party in the evening!

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

There have been so many great experiences, one of them was definitely going to the NSR (National Student Rodeo) in Nottingham. Even though it was extremely cold, with brutal sub-zero temperatures, lots of people from practically every university club in the country turned up to compete in this freestyle event at Holme Pierrepont (an artificial whitewater course). With plenty of people on the course banks fishing out ‘swimmers’ and keeping everyone safe, it is a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself and compete against people of a similar level to you as well as watching the expert’s finals and seeing how it is meant to be done! Of course the evenings are pretty epic also, with cheap alcohol and 700 students crammed into a gigantic marque!

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

No kayaking experience, done some 2 man canoeing malarky.

  2. What made you want to join?

Always enjoyed canoeing, and the people selling the club at the squash were very enthusiastic and convincing. Very glad i joined.

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

It has got to be the adventure ball! The most perfect night out ever, a massive play area combined with frocks and many a drink 🙂 what more could you want?

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Meeting so many lovely people, honestly the friendliest club ever.

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

A bit of mucking around on the sea.

  2. What made you want to join?

The friendly people, weekly socials and variety of club activities – white water, flat water, surfing, play boating and polo so there’s something for everyone. Plus every trip usually ends in a pub!

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

The Adventure Ball, it’s not every day you get to slide down into ball pits all dressed up in gowns and tuxes!

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

It’s so hard to choose as the EUCC has provided so many adventures and hilarious nights out. The Grease Social is brilliant and I love whenever we set off to a river in the beloved minibus (called Heather), loaded with boats and music blaring!

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Yes, quite a bit. I’ve been kayaking for a long time, and I am an instructor. I had done quite a bit of racing and sea kayaking, but not a massive amount of white water until I came to Exeter.

  2. What made you want to join?

Part of the reason I chose Exeter was the great paddling opportunities around, so once I found out how nice and keen the other members were it was an obvious decision!

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

There are loads! The Alps trip in the summer is epic though, with loads of great paddling, and friends!

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Having really enjoyed EUCC in my first year I got much more involved this year, and even organised an event with Hugh called the Pots Rodeo. My best EUCC experience was definitely seeing the event run so smoothly with loads of spectators and competitors from beginners to sponsored paddlers, all having a great time. Bring on Pots Rodeo 2010 again!
