  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Yes, I started about 4 years before joining.

  2. What made you want to join?

I love kayaking and the people who kayak so it seemed like a great choice!

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

I love NSR, it’s just so much fun, you get to meet so many new friends and it’s a great chance to catch up with people you haven’t seen for ages.

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

This year’s Alps trip has been so much fun, Austria in particular as I love paddling new rivers and areas. It’s hard to beat bouncing down rivers that look like bombay sapphire in 30C Sun!

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

A tiny bit, I could just about go in a straight line!

  2. What made you want to join?

I wanted to make the most of being in the South West. Just get out there and see what Devon has to offer. Also on my first pool session and social everyone was so friendly, and I
really connected with people right from the beginning.

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

So many of them. Ummm…. maybe Army social? Dressing up in army stuff and running round Exeter shooting and ambushing each other is so much fun. It’s also very handy
wearing trousers with so many pockets when in Arena (don’t need to bother with a bag!)

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

The Alps 2012. Despite the weather, the holiday was so much fun. Liloing 11km of the Salza, drinking copious amounts of swim beers, stag and hen night, driving the awesome
alpine roads. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to the club.

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

I’ve been paddling since I was 11; mainly focusing on polo since I got hooked on that at 13 but I’ve paddled the local rivers a lot and gained my coaching qualification at 16.

  2. What made you want to join?

I joined because I love paddling so much and it was the best decision I’ve made at uni. I can’t imagine a better club. The social aspect alone makes it worth joining!

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Wow, it’s so hard to pinpoint a favourite! Being a polo fanatic I’d have to say captaining our team when we won our division at the Cardiff uni comp and bringing home EUCC’s first trophy!

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Aside from winning the polo comp I’d have to say the legendary Alps trip. There’s absolutely nothing better than a 2 week holiday with 28 of your best mates! The paddling was awe-inspiring, adrenaline pumping and the scenery was nothing like I’d ever seen before. That alongside the socials and banter make it a trip not to miss if you get the chance!

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

    No kayaking experience.

  2. What made you want to join?

Joined because I knew I wouldn’t be going home at weekends and needed a hobby that had lots of cool trips – EUCC convinced me at the Freshers Fair that they were the club for this.

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Can’t pick one favourite event as there have been too many; the Alps trip was amazing, all the long weekend trips like ex-members, Polzeath, Whales, NSR and Cardiff have all been so much fun best socials for me were Grease, Halloween, Bowling and Tequila.

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Best experience has to be my first river roll. Got far too excited! Most importantly though it’s the people – everyone has been so incredible, definitely made friends for life

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Only a bit of sea kayaking

  2. What made you want to join?

To conquer an 11-year phobia of water! And because the members were all fantastic and really friendly (and bought me drinks on the first social!).

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

TEQUILLA SOCIAL!!! My sombrero collection is getting out of hand!

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

Getting the ‘Most Improved’ award in my first year- it meant a lot as I had gone from being terrified of water in the shower to being able to paddle real life rivers! But all of this was due to everyone in the club taking it in turn to teach me new skills and being very patient with me getting scared.

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

I’d done a few years kayaking at a local club but all just flat water unlike the kayaking in the EUCC

  2. What made you want to join?

Loved kayaking at home, and the club seemed like an enthusiastic group who had a lot to offer and loads of things going on

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Ex-members weekend staying on Dartmoor and enjoying the best of the local surroundings

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

I think being the whole of the year. Being part of a club who you’re excited to see and provide you with so many moments when you can’t help but smile. From socials to trips it’s made my year at uni so much better

  1. Did you have any kayaking experience before joining the club?

Not really, except on holiday once a few years back.

  2. What made you want to join?

I knew I was interested in the club before I came to Exeter and when I really enjoyed the taster session I decided to join.

  3. What is your highlight of the club calendar?

Got to be the Alps, over two weeks of amazing paddling in beautiful scenery with the best company.

  4. Tell us your best EUCC experience.

There’s been lots of ‘best’ moments. The first times I got down Cardiff and down the Loop without swimming were great, but there’s been too many good paddling moments to mention them all though. It’s always the best feeling when you go down something a bit trickier and get it right, but then some of the relaxed easy stuff is fun too.
