EUCC have an open team, a ladies team and a Fresher’s/B team for canoe polo. It’s a great team sport and something you can get in to even if you have never kayaked before! We train at varied times each week, mainly on Wednesdays, down at the quay. We compete at South West Uni League at Bristol, Bath Varsity, Cardiff and the much-anticipated BUCS tournament in April. These are a chance to let out your competitive streak but also have a fun, social time, meeting people from other unis.
A good level of competence on white water is definitely needed for slalom but that is something complete beginners can work towards on the trips we run. Training sessions for slalom take place at Cardiff White Water centre so trips will go there and there is a training day before the BUCS tournament at Teeside. This year we are looking forward to entering more competition in slalom and running more slalom training trips.
This competitive discipline is something the club trains in around the white water rivers of Devon, and the rest of the UK. This is also a BUCS discipline that EUCC competes in, so again the BUCS tournament is something really great to train for. A fast-paced, high adrenaline sport that gets your heart pumping and creates incredibly fun memories. Also, Alex Sheppy, a club member, was recently awarded AU colours in recognition of his exceptional achievements in kayaking including representing GB U21s in Wild Water Racing. Congratulations Alex Sheppy!
